CIVETS.. new BRICS?

Note: this article was written for a Fixed Income Newsletter in March, some data may be out to date.
Have you heard about the CIVETS? These are cute little mammals, mostly arboreal who can be found in the tropics of Africa and Asia (thanks Wikipedia!). But, you wouldn’t expect me talking about mammals in a Fixed Income Newsletter, would you? Why am I talking about them, anyway?
It is pretty simple, CIVETS is the new term, CIVETS are the new BRICs: CIVETS are relatively small but dynamic economies that carry a lot of potential and are attracting investors.

So, the objective of this article is introduce you guys to the concept, as I am intending to talk with further detail about each and every one of these dynamic countries and as it is as new to public as it is to you and me. First of all, CIVETS stands for the following countries, located in South America, Africa and Asia: Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa.

Last reported GDP figures show significant growth rates for all of these countries. If you have more curiosity, check CDS rates and you will see how they have been consistently dropping lately. This countries are expected to excel and be rivals of the BRICS.

I intended to do a little introduction on this and in the next occasions, I will talk about each country in further in the future. I am open to suggestions as well.
Cheers from one of the BRICs!!!
